After assigning your website to me, the first thing I will do is look into the keywords you want to rank and then do competitive research of your main competitor's ranking position, website analysis, backlink analysis, etc.
If your website is fully optimized, then I will directly go for high quality link building. But if your website isn’t optimized, then the first step will be running an SEO audit for your whole website and fix the technical and On-page errors including fixing meta title and meta description, Alt tag, the header tag, content optimization, internal and external linking, schema and open graph tag, and website speed optimization for the website. The main purpose is to optimize the whole website.
After optimizing the whole website, my key goal is to get authority backlinks for high DA websites. I will follow different backlink strategies like guest posting, local citation building / Business listing, broken link building, link placement, link outreach, PR etc. I will send weekly report including the status of the link building effort for your website.
It depends on your budget and how long you want to keep it going as link building a continuous process. There will be several tasks in a link building campaign like content creation for high quality or media sites, finding the opportunities for niche link building, outreach to the author/website owner and update the backlink campaign weekly. It will take several months to complete a successful link building campaign. For gaining the best outcome, I prefer 3-6 months contract to run a successful link building campaign.
It’s hard to say how many backlinks you need to rank your website. It depends on the competitiveness of your niche and your overall goals. The only thing I can say, you have to prioritize the quality over the quantity when it comes to the link building. A backlink from a high quality site is thousands times better than a spammy or low authority sites.
To start this point, let me say I ONLY DO WHITE HAT SEO.
So, what is White hat and black hat SEO? You might already read hundreds of blog featuring that White hat is the best practice regarding SEO. A white hat SEO technique includes quality content, user friendly and fast loading time, content-relevant keyword research, fixing all technical and on-page errors, and run a high-quality link building campaign.
Black hat includes keyword stuffing, unnaturally putting keywords in meta title and meta descriptions, getting links from spammy and unrelated websites, and placing duplicated content. As Google algorithm is getting smarter day by day, if you continue to do black hat SEO, Google will decrease your ranking. In worst case scenario, you might get Google penalty which is hard to recover. So you have to go with white hat SEO.

Actually, it depends on several factors like SEO score, technical & On-page SEO, content optimization according to SEO ranking factors, acquiring quality backlinks, and most importantly Keyword difficulty and competition of your niche. If you choose some highly competitive keywords and your website hasn’t optimized yet, then it will take some time (maybe over 6 months) to rank your website. However, I prefer 6 months contract to see some good results in terms of ranking some important keywords. And that's what I can guarantee!
After assigning your project, the first week I will do broad keyword research and let you know which keywords you might rank in the first 6 months. It depends on the keyword difficulty and the status of your website. For example, if your website is new and hasn’t optimized yet, and the keywords you want to rank are highly competitive (>70-90), then it might not be possible to rank those keywords in such a given time. In that condition, it will be wise to target some low competitive keywords and rank them for your website.

Challenges: The first challenge is the competitors of this niche. There are lots of quality websites were already there, and they ranked with lots of profitable keywords. Also, Best*****player was publishing 15-20 posts/week. So keep them optimized is another challenge.
My SEO Strategy:
Here is my step by step link building strategy:
· First I have to optimize 15-20 posts/week following the latest SEO ranking factors.
· Then I search for the relevant website where I can put my link building effort. I have created a list of relevant websites in a spreadsheet where I track my link building effort.

My Link Building/SEO Strategy:
I have worked for this relationship tips site based in Netherlands to improve their search visibility and overall ranking. Here was my working process:
· First I have fixed their all On-page SEO errors from ahrefs report. Their SEO health score was only 26, I have fix all On-page problems and now their SEO score is 100 out of 100.
· Then I have improved their load time on both desktop and mobile.
· And finally, I have search for the high DA website that allows guest posting, link placements, broken link placement on their website. Then I have created a back link for my client’s website on the high DA sites.
